It has come to the attention of the neighbors of the Waterville High School that an upgrade to the parking is in the works to the tune of almost $1 million. The project will include moving and updating the girls’ softball field, making a new exit onto Brooklyn Avenue, and having an area for students to congregate at (for safety reasons).
I believe it is too much too soon, not taking all aspects into consideration. The school census is down. We should be using fewer busses for the 80 students using them.
If safety is the issue, then why is the softball field in the picture? Why is student parking moved farther away from view of teachers and other disciplines? How will this affect the value of the homes in the area? Why weren’t the plans published in the Morning Sentinel?
I plan on attending the next City Council meeting and would like to see more people there to help postpone these plans in hopes of coming up with a more cost-effective and safer plan for the students and neighbors of Waterville High School.
