York police are warning residents to lock their cars after several vehicles were burglarized Wednesday night or Thursday morning.
Four automobiles were entered on Harvest Lane between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Thursday. A loaded handgun was taken from one vehicle and an unloaded rifle and shotgun from another.
York police Sgt. Brian Curtin said car burglaries usually increase this time of year as thieves search unlocked cars for Christmas gifts. Curtin said car burglary is a crime of opportunity and the most effective preventative measure residents can take is to lock their vehicles.
“It is really easy. Just lock your car,” said Curtin.
He said the burglaries are under investigation.
