Yarmouth police are asking residents to check their mailboxes for damage after an adult and three juveniles were caught allegedly smashing mailboxes with a baseball bat.
A resident reported to police around 8 p.m. Wednesday that juveniles in a white pickup truck were driving around the Rogers Road neighborhood smashing mailboxes with a baseball bat before leaving the area. Officers found and stopped the truck on Merrell Road in Pownal, police said in a Facebook post.
Police say all four individuals were charged with crimes, but did not immediately release their names or information about the charges. The same people are facing charges in Freeport and Brunswick for allegedly damaging mailboxes in those towns, according to police.
Police are asking residents in the areas of Rogers Road, Burnell Drive, Gail Lane, Mellissa Drive, North Road, East Main Street and Granite Street to look for damage. Multiple damaged mailboxes near Rogers Road and Burnell Drive have already been documented and photographed by police, but investigators still need to speak with each owner.
Residents with damaged mailboxes are asked to contact Sgt. Kevin Pedersen at 846-3333.
