Maine Connections Academy, a virtual public charter school, has selected Wyatt Howe, a senior from Pleasant Ridge Plantation, as its February STAR Student. Howe was chosen because of his engagement in his lessons and his consistently excellent performance in and outside of school, according to a news release from the school.
Howe enrolled at the academy in 2016, looking for a school option that would give him a more flexible schedule. At MCA, Wyatt has enjoyed his classes, especially science, which have helped him learn how the world works. He has also appreciated his photography class, as it has given him the opportunity to develop his skills and expertise, according to the release.
Outside of school, Howe enjoys spending as much time outdoors as possible. He volunteers with the Pine Grove Program, a nonprofit that takes veterans on outdoor adventures, and also is a volunteer firefighter.
He plans to major in criminal justice when he goes to college, with aspirations of becoming a federal law enforcement agent, according to the release.
