AUGUSTA — One northbound traffic lane was closed Tuesday morning on Interstate 95 after a tractor-trailer pulled off the highway, hitting a soft, wet shoulder and rolling onto its passenger side.

The rollover occurred around 7 a.m. between the exits to Western Avenue and Civic Center Drive, according to a Facebook post by the Maine State Police.

Traffic moved slowly past the wreck until authorities re-opened the travel lane in the early afternoon.

The truck’s driver, Joshua Linfield, of Massachusetts, was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center after complaining of shoulder pain, police said.

Linfield told authorities that he pulled off the highway because “he thought something was wrong with his load of metal and building material,” according to the Maine State Police Facebook page.

Linfield then reportedly pulled into the breakdown lane and hit “the soft, wet shoulder. The tractor-trailer truck was pulled into the wet embankment and rolled onto its passenger side.”

At 1 p.m., police had reopened the right lane, but an emergency crew still was removing the rest of the wreckage. The right lane was closed again temporarily later in the afternoon.
