The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a boat with a man and three children whose distress call went silent off Kennebunkport on Saturday morning.
A distress call was received about 10:30 a.m. Saturday from a man who said his 14-foot boat had taken on water and capsized, said Lt. Matt Odom of the Coast Guard station in South Portland. Odom said the man had three children with him. He said all four of the boaters were wearing orange life vests.
The man was not able to give his specific location or to read his boat’s identification number, Odom said. Search crews set out from South Portland and Portsmouth, New Hampshire, with boats and a helicopter, and began searching an area roughly 10 nautical miles from the coast, the Coast Guard said on Twitter.
As of 8 p.m. the capsized boat and its passengers had not been spotted, Odom said. He said the search would continue through the night.
