MANCHESTER — The town’s annual roadside litter pick up will start at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 24, at the Town Office at 12 Readfield Road. The Manchester Conservation Commission is sponsoring the event, and residents and civic groups are encouraged to participate.
“In the past, we have had excellent participation and support from the Boy Scouts, the Manchester snowmobile club, Kennebec Savings Bank, local businesses and local churches, including, in particular, Hope Baptist Church,” said Commission Chairman Jeff Janell, according to a news release from the town office.
“Picking up roadside trash is not just an aesthetic issue. Removing roadside litter from the environment helps to keep plastics, metals and other contaminants out of our fields and waterways,” he added.
The event will be held rain or shine. In keeping with social distancing requirements, there will not be any food provided or social program, and masks should be worn in the parking lot. Participants will be signed in, assigned a street, and provided bags and equipment.
Residents also have the option of picking up their neighborhood streets independently the week prior to April 24. For pickup, call the town office at 207-622-1894.
