
William David Savoy
AUGUSTA – William David Savoy passed away on Feb. 6, 2021 at Maine Veteran’s Hospital at Togus in Augusta. He was born in Lewiston to William J. and Gladys Theresa Savoy on Oct. 6, 1935.
He was a graduate of Madison Memorial High School and was a member of Madison marching band where he won a scholarship to the New England Music Camp at Sidney. Mr. Savoy enlisted in the US Navy after graduation and served honorable on the USS Bennett and the USS Saint Paul as a communication officer.
David started his venture in broadcasting at WABI in Bangor and ran movies at local theatres. He was married to Dorothy Green Sirois for 42 years. She passed in 2008. David was known as the weekend pianist playing at Sugarloaf baselodge and chapel, and also at Kingfield and Clinton suppers.
He attended church on Island Avenue in Skowhegan with the Rev. Mark Tanner. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Skowhegan Elks. He played music at the Redington Memorial Home where he was a resident.
David and Dottie were married in Las Vegas with local friends from Madison attending. From there he started entertaining music from California to Florida at dinner clubs and on spiritual Sundays.
David will be missed at Randy’s Auto for a cup of coffee and a chat with his great nephew, Mike.
He leaves his brother, Joseph Savoy; two nieces, Cynthia Badger, Vanessa Bruce and Timothy Sovoy (deceased); two grand nieces, Jessica and Samantha; one grand nephew, Michael Bruce; and seven great great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and nephew Timothy Savoy.
Graveside service will be held at the Maine Veterans cemetery at 163 Mount Vernon Rd., Augusta on May 19 at 2 p.m. with the Navy Honor Guard.
