Bill was a graduate of Stevens High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Gorham State Teachers College.

In 1964, Bill met the love of his life, Sandra Bartlett at a dance. While in college, Bill would hitch hike from Gorham to Rumford to spend the weekend with Sandy. They fell in love and married on June 11, 1966. In 2001, Bill and Sandy built their dream home on Cobbossee Lake where they happily spent their retirement years. They loved traveling to Florida in the winter and taking day trips to the coast for lunch in the summer. They enjoyed 54 years together until her passing in 2020.

For 50 years, Bill worked for Horace Mann Insurance Company. The people there were family to “Billy”. He served as a mentor to many and earned countless business awards. He and Sandy were provided the opportunity to travel to incredible locations due to his accomplishments with the company and made lifelong friends along the way.

Bill was an avid outdoorsman. It was an annual tradition to head north to the Allagash or Moosehead with his sons, lifelong friends, and grandchildren. He loved to fish, hunt, and play cards. Bill was a lifelong member of the Elk’s Lodge. His greatest joy was spending time at the lake with his family and friends playing cribbage and cornhole while sharing his latest riddle with a twinkle in his eye. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell a good story. All four of his grandchildren learned to drive in his truck on the dirt road.

Bill was a communicant of St. Michael’s Parish.
