PITTSFIELD – David W. Lyford, 81, died peacefully on April 5, 2022, in Pittsfield.
David was born on August 20, 1940, in Milo, Maine, the son of the late Merle and Jennie (Bradshaw) Lyford Sr and graduated from Piscataquis Community High School with the class of 1958.
He had been employed at Dexter Shoe, the Pittsfield Bowling Center, SVH as an ambulance driver, and at the Corner Cupboard Store.
Dave was an easy going guy who got along well with others. He enjoyed fishing, swimming, bowling, canoeing, playing softball, and watching the yearly basketball tournaments on television. He loved to play card games, especially Pinochle, Bridge, Spades, Hearts and Texas Hold ‘em. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. He loved being with his family and attending all their sporting events. He was a member of Grace Linn Memorial United Methodist Church and was involved in the choir, the Methodist’s Men’s Group, and he also served as a trustee.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Arletta Lyford of Pittsfield; siblings, Joyce Carlson of Massachusetts, Ronald Lyford and wife Lottie of Hartland, Stanley Lyford and wife Nadine of LaGrange, Peggy Valvo and husband Bob of Fairfield, sisters-in-law, Lynn Lyford of Addison, Connie Lyford of Bradford, and Cindy Lyford of Augusta, brother-in-law, Reginald Knowles of Newport; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; and siblings, Beatrice Knowles, Merle “Austin” Lyford Jr, Roberta Thulin, Donald Lyford, John Lyford, and Wayne Lyford.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, April 23, 2022, at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. A private graveside service will be held at a later date in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Hartland.
