Waterville Senior High School has announced its top 10 students for the graduating class of 2022.
Hazel Dow is graduating first in the class with an unweighted GPA of 98.094, according to a news release from the school. She is a member of the National Honor Society, president; Student Council, Tri-M Music Honor Society, vice president; and the cross country team, captain.
She has been awarded a Phi Beta Kappa Association of Maine Academic Achievement Award, USMC Semper Fi Award for Musical Excellence, a Renaissance Award, and is a member of the KVAC All-Academic team for both cross country and track.
Dow volunteers at Mid Maine Regional Adult Community Education, is an academic tutor, and helps teach younger students the violin. She plans to attend Husson University majoring in physical therapy in the fall. Dow is the daughter of Robert Dow of Eddington and Carolyn Adams of Waterville.
Emily Campbell is graduating second in the class with an unweighted GPA of 95.787. She is a member of Yearbook, president; Green Team, historian; tennis, captain; soccer, captain; Key Club, Pep Band, Speech and Debate, Student Ambassador, class officers, president; National Honor Society, Homeroom Buddies, and Spanish Club.
She is a Speech and Debate state champion, a Poetry Out Loud regional winner, is a Renaissance Award Winner, a QuestBridge Scholar, was presented a Dartmouth Book Award, a Student Sage Award, and attained the Global Seal of Biliteracy for Spanish.
Campbell volunteers at the Mid Maine Regional Adult Community Education Program and works a part-time job. She plans to attend Bowdoin College in the fall. Campbell is the daughter of Caroline and Robert Campbell of Waterville.
William Jackson is graduating third in the class with an unweighted GPA of 95.250. He is a member of the French Honor Society, the National Honor Society, and the Drama program. In the past, he has participated in Math Team, Speech Team, and Science Olympiad. Jackson is a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. He was given a Renaissance award in his junior year, and earned the Eagle Scout rank with his local Scout troop. He plans to attend college in the fall to study applied physics, with a concentration in chemical engineering. Jackson is the son of Susan and David Jackson of Waterville.
Keya Amundsen is graduating fourth in the class with an unweighted GPA of 95.240. She is a member of cross country team, KVAC All-Academic; Green Team, president; Tri-M Music Honors Society, secretary; National Honors Society, tutoring co-chair; Science Olympiad, Math Team, Spanish Club, and the All-State Orchestra.
She is an AP Scholar with Honor, a College Board Commended Student, was recognized with a Society of Women Engineers Award, a Peter R. Marsh Silent Service Award, and a President’s Award for Educational Excellence.
Amundsen volunteers as a snowmaker at Quarry Road Trails. She plans to attend a four-year college to study mechanical or aerospace engineering in the fall. She is the daughter of Minakshi and Ole Amundsen of Waterville.
Noah Koch is graduating fifth in the class with an unweighted GPA of 95.026. He is a member of the cross country and track and field teams, National Honor Society, and plays piano. He has won a Renaissance Award and The University of Rochester Xerox Award for Innovation and Information Technology.
He is a volunteer piano tutor. He plays classical piano, and his favorite composer is Franz Liszt. In the fall, he plans to attend Macalester College, a liberal arts college in St. Paul, Minnesota. Koch is the son of Hilary and Arne Koch of Waterville.
Joseph Hamelin is graduating sixth in the class with an unweighted GPA of 94.873. He is a member of the National Honor Society, and baseball and basketball teams. He was recognized with a Renaissance Award and KVAC All-Academic Award.
He volunteers by tutoring other students and he is employed by Hamelin Furniture. He plans to attend Husson University to study physical therapy in fall, while also competing on Husson’s baseball team. Hamelin is the son of Louise and Marc Hamelin of Waterville.
Eleanor King is graduating seventh in the class with an unweighted GPA of 94.848. She is an active participant in Yearbook, business manager; Select Choir, National Honor Society, and Drama. She was recognized with a Renaissance Award and a ShineOnCass Junior Service Award.
King volunteers at Hart to Hart Farm Camp, is a George J. Mitchell School Panther Peer, assists at the Waterville Junior High School in a music classroom and in an English classroom, made masks for Waterville Public Schools staff and students, delivered food to families in need during COVID-19 remote schooling, and volunteered in the special education department at Waterville Public Schools.
She plans to attend Thomas College in the fall to study business. King is daughter to Tabatha King of Waterville.
Piper Hallen is graduating eighth in the class with an unweighted GPA of 94.521. She is an active member of Key Club, Tri-M Music Honor Society, National Honor Society, French Club, French Honors Society, Student Ambassador, and is a Homeroom Buddy. She was awarded a Renaissance Award and a Wellesley College Book Award.
She works as a waitress and worked as an intern at the Maine State House in the Department of Public Policy. She volunteers at Mid Maine Regional Adult Community Education Program, is a classroom helper at George J. Mitchell School and Albert S. Hall School, a NHS tutor, and helps teach dance to younger students.
She plans to attend a four-year college majoring in political science with a public policy focus in the fall. Hallen is the daughter of Lisa and Peter Hallen of Waterville.
Olivia Gervais is graduating ninth in the class with an unweighted GPA of 93.809. She is a member of Junior Classical League, secretary; French Club, Key Club, Homeroom Buddy, National Honor Society, National Latin Honor Society, National French Honor Society, treasurer; indoor track, and outdoor track.
She was awarded a Renaissance Award, Responsibility Award, and a William’s College Book Award. She volunteers by tutoring students.
She plans to attend the University of Southern Maine studying exercise science in the fall. Gervais is the daughter of Lori and Derek Gervais of Waterville.
Colette Carrillo is graduating 10th in the class with an unweighted GPA of 93.625. She participated in Speech, president; Drama, Thespian Honors Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, president; Green Team, co-event coordinator; class officers, co-historian; National French Honor Society, vice president; National Honors Society, secretary; STAND, co-president; Select Choir, Tennis, and Homeroom Buddies.
She won a Renaissance Award, an MPA Drama Technical Award, a Smith College Book Award, a Russell Sage Award, is a two-time National Qualifier for Speech, College Board National Hispanic Recognition Scholar, and a state finalist in Poetry Out Loud.
She volunteers at the Waterville Opera House. She works as a camp counselor for Missoula Children’s Theatre and at the Waterville public pool.
Carrillo plans to attend Bowdoin College to major in English and minor in theater in the fall. Carrillo is the daughter of Diane and Dennis Carrillo of Waterville.
