Betty A. Shorette

SKOWHEGAN – Betty A. Shorette, 82, of Skowhegan passed away peacefully, in the loving care of her family, on April 16, 2022, at her home. Betty was the firstborn to Clarence and Charlotte (Deschaine) Collin in Frenchville, Maine, on Feb. 28, 1940. She graduated from Waterville High School in 1958 and married Peter, the love of her life, in 1959. They shared 62 years of life and marriage until his passing in 2021.In 1970, while raising her young family, Betty continued her education and graduated from nursing school in 1972, and then started her career at Redington-Fairview General Hospital from 1972 until her retirement in 2002. She served on RFGH’s hospital auxiliary for many years.Betty leaves behind three children: Sharon Gibbs and her husband Andrew of Sidney, Peter Shorette Jr. from Milford, and David Shorette of Scarborough and his partner Di. She is also survived a brother, Rod of Mentone, Calif.; one sister, Trena of Rockledge, Fla.; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and a nephew, and an extensive network of dear friends including Kathy Swett, Pat and Charlie Towne, and Denise and Verle Jones.In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents and one brother Donald of California. She was a communicant of Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church in Skowhegan and served with the Daughters of Isabella.Betty loved gardening, cooking and baking for her family and friends, and making gorgeous quilts. Betty and Pete enjoyed many great years of retirement, traveling around the country with friends and wintering in Zephyrhills, Florida.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church in Skowhegan. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at noon in the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.Arrangements are under the care of Dan & Scott’s Cremation and Funeral Service, 445 Waterville Road, Skowhegan, Maine 04976.
