I am astounded at the lengths politicians have been going to demonize their opponents as opposed to saying why you should vote for them. Anti-opponent claims are often so far from true, I am embarrassed to watch. I want to scream, “What you just said is a complete and deliberate misreading or distortion of the justification for the issue you attacked.”

A surprising thing is you see candidate’s faces on attack ads more often than on their own ads.

Many years ago I recall a member of the Detroit, Michigan, City Council, when asked about campaign ads criticizing her, saying, “I don’t care what they say about me as long as they spell my name right.”

Lying about your opponent can backfire. If you lie about them, what else are you prepared to lie about?
