NORRIDGEWOCK – Julia M. (Goguen) Brown, of Norridgewock, died peacefully at home on Jan. 23, 2023, at the age of 88.
She was born on June 7, 1934, in Madison to Annie Belle Lovejoy LeBreton and Joseph Goguen. She attended school in Madison. After marrying and raising children, she was employed by Redington-Fairview Hospital in Skowhegan for 12 years until retiring.
Julia married Gardiner, her sweetheart, on Dec. 31, 1951, in Madison. The couple resided in California, Virginia, and Connecticut before returning to Maine in 1972. She was Gardiner’s loving and caring wife for 66 years and was immensely proud of the family they raised together.
Julia was simply a good woman who lived a good and simple life. She was incredibly generous and equally stubborn and kind. She enjoyed nature, family gatherings, playing cribbage, watching murder mysteries, and “puttering around the house.” She instilled a sense of optimism in her children and taught them to be forgiving and grateful.
Julia is survived by four children, Gardiner “Gus” W. Brown, Jr., Doreen Brown, Rita Brown, and Joyce Brown Donahue; six grandchildren, Gardiner W. Brown, III, Andrea Hayden Drayton, Christopher Brown, Renee Brown, Alexander Brown, and Abbey Donahue; nine great-grandchildren, Emma Winegardner, Juliet Winegardner Monsen, Brooklyn Brown, Trey Brown, Xavier Brown, Natalie Brown, Aliyah Brown, Raven Stewart and Rowdy Stewart; and beloved cat, Simon.
Julia was preceded in death by her husband, Gardiner “Guy” W. Brown, Sr.; and by her siblings Juliet Goguen Turcotte, Doris Goguen Beaumont, Delma Goguen Bouchard, Leona Goguen Landry, and Albert Goguen.
Arrangements are under the care of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.
