Corinne L. Rea

AUGUSTA – Corinne L. Rea, 85, a former resident of Fayette, much loved mother, sister, and aunt, passed away peacefully on Feb. 8, 2023, at the Glenridge Memory Care facility in Augusta, where she had been a patient for several months.

She was born in Riley on May 17, 1937, the third child of Joseph C. and Alice A. (Gingras) Rea. She attended schools at St. Rose of Lima in Jay and then went to Livermore Falls High School, graduating in 1955.

After graduating, she moved to Lewiston with her friends and started working for Ward Bros. as a sales agent. In 1957, she had a son and then moved back to Livermore Falls and began working at Livermore Shoe Company, where she worked for 28 years. In 1987, she started working for the State of Maine in the Department of Human Services in Augusta as the front desk receptionist and retired in 2002.

For most of her life, she made Fayette her home. She would enjoy hosting holiday parties for her family and would often babysit for her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed taking out her kayak, paddling around the many ponds in Maine. She loved going to the Great Falls Balloon Festival in Lewiston. She also loved taking bus trips with her niece to Pennsylvania, New York City, N.Y., and Washington, D.C., and visiting Florida, California and Washington state.

She was very artistic and loved to paint. She painted several Mother Goose characters for her nieces and nephews for their birthdays. Corinne had a passion for sewing and started making clothes of her own starting in the ’50s. Later, she enjoyed making quilts and donated quite a few of them to the Linus Project and to local nursing homes. She was also the family photographer, taking her camera with her wherever she went.

She is survived by her son, Nicholas and his husband, Henry, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a sister, Joan and her husband Raymond Fleury of Winthrop; two nieces, Pam and her partner, Dan Jolicoeur of Winthrop, and Kim Fleury of Winthrop, two nephews, Doug Fleury of Farmingdale and Glenn Fleury and his wife, Jodi of Seattle, Wash. She will also be missed by her great-nieces and great-nephews Ryan, Carissa, Anthony, Nathanial, Mariah and Landon.

She was predeceased by her brother, John “Jack” Rea in 2010; and her parents Joseph (1984) and Alice Rea (1991).
