WATERVILLE — The Kennebec Valley Community Action Program joined providers throughout Maine and across the nation to take part in the Week of the Young Child. The annual celebration is sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the world’s largest early childhood education association, with nearly 60,000 members and a network of 51 Affiliates.
The purpose of the week is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.
All KVCAP early childhood partner sites participated in daily activities, including Educare Central Maine, Skowhegan Early Head Start, preschool locations in School Administrative Districts 54 and 49, and Regional School Unit 19, as well as KVCAP HomeStart Family Child Care Providers. Activities included Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work Together Wednesday, Artsy Thursday, and Family Friday.
On April 8 Waterville Mayor Michael Morris visited Educare to read and sign a mayoral proclamation formally establishing April 6-12 as the Week of the Young Child for the young children, families, educators and other early childhood supporters across the city.
