WATERVILLE — A water main break on Kennedy Memorial Drive on Friday had cut off water supply to about 60 customers, including both businesses and residences.
In a late morning post on Facebook, the Kennebec Water District said the main break had occurred between First Rangeway and the Shaw’s Plaza. Water district crews could be seen Friday afternoon working alongside the road just before the traffic light at the Shaw’s Plaza.
The water district said service areas impacted were businesses along Kennedy Memorial Drive between First Rangeway and Shaw’s Plaza (including Northern Light Continuing Care Lakewood), Eaton Drive, Cherry Hill Drive, and portions of Cherry Hill Terrace. Additionally, the water supply to Northern Light Inland Hospital was limited.
The district did not immediately say what caused the main break.
“Our crew is onsite assessing the situation and working to make the necessary repairs. The time for full water restoration in these areas is unknown,” the district wrote in the post. “We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this event.”
At 2 p.m., the water district provided an update that other areas on the west side of Kennedy Memorial Drive were being impacted as well.
In an early evening Facebook update, the district said the effort was continuing and that Fanado Pelotte Contractor was working with the water district on the scene.
“This is a very challenging site,” the district posted shortly after 5 p.m. “We have finally been able to expose the pipe. Lots more work before we’re done.”
