Dawn Elaine Roth Costello

WINTHROP – Dawn Elaine Roth Costello, 61, died Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at her home in Winthrop, following a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

Dawn is survived by her husband, Gregory Costello; her sister, Cathy Browne, her brother-in-law, Gary Jean, her sister-in-law, Karen Criss and husband, Paul; her nephew Jesse Jean and wife, Krystal, her nieces Amanda Ledoux and husband Matt, Hannah Damian and husband Oliver; and her great-nieces and nephews Quinn, Calvin, Henry, Frank, Maggie, Christopher, and Olivia.

Dawn was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde Roth, Ann Roth, Mary Roth; and her beloved sister, Rosalyn Jean.

Dawn was born June 7, 1962 in Gardiner to Clyde and Maryelizabeth Mitchell Roth and Ann (Wilson) Roth who adopted her after Mary’s death. The family moved to Winthrop, and it was here Dawn decided to spend the rest of her life. She graduated from Winthrop High School in 1980 and proceeded to cosmetology school. She found her passion in making others look and feel great.

Dawn married her best friend, Greg in 1991, after spending 11 years as his partner. In1985, she opened her own beauty shop, DR Sudz. Her customers were lifers, once they started coming to her, they came for always. Many became her very best friends.

Dawn enjoyed gardening and was proud of her canning and preserving abilities. Her yards were filled with gorgeous flowers she tended with love. The bushes and flowers offered the many species of birds she loved watching a place to eat and rest.

Her favorite place to be was “Upta” camp on Schoodic Lake. Taking her kitties, Rosie, and Willow, was a must. Her fur babies often rode on her shoulders in the truck and meant the world to her. It was “Upta” where she fished and entertained many friends and family members. One of her greatest joys was sharing camp experiences with people.

Due to Dawn’s wishes, there will be no public service. A private family graveside burial will be held at a later date.

A special thank you to Leon Roberts at Knowlton and Hewins and Roberts Funeral Home for taking such good care of Dawn.
