A Jay man led multiple law enforcement agencies on a motor vehicle chase through several towns late Thursday, ultimately being stopped in Oakland where police had laid down spike mats.

Zacheriah Allan Adams, 33, was arrested by Waterville police on charges of driving to endanger, operating after habitual offender revocation, eluding an officer, violation of conditions of release, aggravated reckless conduct, criminal restraint, refusing to submit to arrest and motor vehicle speeding 30-plus mph over the speed limit.

The chase started on Front Street in Waterville at 9:15 p.m. Thursday when an officer stopped a green 2004 Ford F-150 pickup that Adams was driving. According to Waterville Police Department’s arrest log, Adams had been arrested earlier in the week, at 5:37 p.m. Tuesday, and charged with operating after revocation as a habitual offender.

Maine State Police, Fairfield police and Somerset County Sheriff’s officials became involved in the chase as it continued onto County Road in Waterville and then Six Rod Road and Martin Stream Road in Fairfield, according to emergency dispatch reports. Speeds were reported to reach 60 mph during the chase. Police reported at 9:35 p.m. that it appeared someone was trying to open the passenger door of the pickup.

The truck continued into Norridgewock on Martin Stream Road and then turned south on Route 8 and headed toward Smithfield. A passenger bailed out of the truck, police said. At 9:40 p.m., the truck and law enforcement officials passed 357 East Pond Road. Oakland police had laid spike mats down at the intersection of East Pond Road and Route 137, where the truck stopped, and police had Adams in custody at 9:46 p.m., according to dispatch reports.

Adams was arrested by Farmington police in 2022 on charges of failure to stop for an officer, aggravated driving to endanger, violation of conditions of release and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs. He also was accused in 2022 by several people of failing to perform home repairs after collecting down payments.
