Curtis Paul Fox

MONMOUTH – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Curtis Paul Fox, 66, who passed away May 24, 2024. Curtis was the first 1958 baby to be born at Stephens Memorial Hospital on Jan. 1.

Curtis dedicated over five decades of his life to serving his community as a firefighter, joining the fire department in 1973. His commitment for helping others led him to achieve the rank of Captain, a title he held proudly for nearly 30 years. In addition to his service on the fire department, Curtis was a member of the Monmouth Fair and could be found in the museum sharing his passion for antique tools and engines. Curtis owned and operated Fox Small Engines since 1978. His expertise even took him to California to obtain a Harley certification for motorcycle repair. Curtis was a member of the Winthrop Legion Post 40.

Curtis will be remembered for his love of motorcycles and was found all over the state with Christof in the side car. He attended nearly every fair in the state sharing his vinegar french fries with his friends and family. He was the go-to guy to fix anything, if it had an engine he could fix it. His children were driving minibikes and snowmobiles from the moment they could reach the handlebars. His grandchildren remember him as the one who would always play with them. If they couldn’t find him at a gathering, they knew to look in the leaf pile because he was probably hiding and ready to jump out at them. One year at the beach party he gave them an entire trash bag full of cotton candy, of course he didn’t ask the parents if it was ok first.

Curtis was dependable and available at any moment. You could call him at 2:00 in the morning and he would show up to help change a tire.  He’d often say “Where do you want to go, we’ve got a full tank of gas, we can go anywhere you want”. He once showed up on his Harley and somehow pulled out Chinese food and a chocolate cake to feed the entire family. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children, always bringing pockets full of Slim Jims, spicy hot dogs, and peanut butter crackers.

Curtis was predeceased by his parents Paul C. Fox and Iva Fox.  He is survived by his partner Amy Pond, his brother Kevin Fox and wife Tracy; his children Jessica Butler and her husband Nathan, Kyle Fox and his wife Casey, Paul W. Fox, and Christof Fox. He is also survived by his grandchildren who affectionately refer to him as Beard Grampa – Abigail Violette, Connor Fox, Jeremiah Butler, Brenda Butler, Sawyer Fox, and Lilith Butler.
