The following colleges and universities recently announced area students’ academic achievements during the 2024 spring semester.

Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences 

BOSTON — Grace McCarthy of Sidney has been named to the spring semester dean’s list at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

McCarthy is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Health Psychology. She plans to graduate from the Boston campus in 2025.

The list recognizes those students with a full-time course load who have achieved outstanding scholarship with a 3.5 GPA or higher for the academic term.

Hartwick College

ONEONTA, N.Y. — Jessica Fisher of China was named to the spring dean’s list at Hartwick College.

Fisher is pursuing a major in psychology and sociology with a minor in social work.

BISMARCK, N.D. — Adam Desrosiers of Winthrop graduated from Bismarck State College with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Energy Management during the college’s 84th commencement ceremony May 10 at the Bismarck Event Center.

Cedarville University

CEDARVILLE, Ohio — Rebecca Riley from Chelsea earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Cedarville University.

Elmira College

ELMIRA, N.Y. — Elmira College’s 2024 Key Award was given to 831 students in 17 states. A tradition that goes back to 1935, the Key Award is presented to outstanding students in their junior year of high school or preparatory school.

Local students included Addison Wing of Sidney, Emma Perry of Hallowell, and Zachary Dionne of Belgrade.

Recipients receive an $88,000 scholarship over a four-year period, $22,000 per year, upon enrolling at Elmira College.

BOSTON — Two local students graduated May 12 from Emerson College during its 144th commencement at Agganis Arena.

Georgia Howe from Farmingdale received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing.

BOSTON — Emily Gliniewicz is a graduate of the Doctor of Medicine program Tufts University School of Medicine. She received the Doctor of Medicine degree on May 19.

She was a member of the Maine Track program, a partnership between Tufts University School of Medicine and Maine Medical Center in Portland.

She is doing her OB/GYN Residency at Lehigh Medical Center in Bethlehem, Pa.

MEDFORD, Mass. — Four local students have been named to the 2024 spring semester dean’s list at Tufts University. Dean’s list honors at Tufts University require a semester grade point average of 3.4 or greater.

University of Alaska Fairbanks

FAIRBANKS, Alaska — Jeff Beyea of Whitefield has been named to the 2024 spring dean’s list at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Students receiving a 3.9 grade point average or higher are placed on the chancellor’s list, while those receiving a grade point average of between 3.5 and 3.89 are named to the deans’ list. The lists recognize students’ outstanding academic achievements.

Saint Michael’s College

COLCHESTER, Vt. — Cambelle Nutting of Vassalboro graduated in May from Saint Michael’s College. Nutting graduated with a degree in business administration and gender and sexuality studies.

APPLETON, Wis. — Jamie Simeone of Burnham has made the 2023-24 dean’s list at Lawrence University.

The Dean’s List is an annual honor roll of students demonstrating exemplary academic performance. The list is compiled at the end of the academic year once all grades have been recorded. For a student to be included on the Dean’s List, the student must have earned at least 36 units in Lawrence courses during the academic year (Lawrence courses include courses taken on the Appleton campus or in a Lawrence-sponsored or affiliated off-campus program) and have earned a GPA of at least 3.500 in those courses, with no unsatisfactory grades.

RANDOLPH CENTER, Vt. — Carson Zundel of Farmington has been named to the president’s list at Vermont State University.

President’s list designation is reserved for the students who maintain full-time status and a semester grade point average of 4.0.

CANTON, N.Y. —  Five local students were named to the dean’s list at St. Lawrence University.

Emerson College

BOSTON — Emerson College student Kailey Pelletier of Readfield participated in Emerson Stage’s production of “Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812” from April 18-20 at the Cutler Majestic Theatre. Written by Dave Malloy, directed by M. Bevin O’Gara, with music direction by Sariva Goetz and choreographed by Christopher Shin, “The Great Comet” is an electropop opera based on a portion of Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace.

GREELEY, Colo. — Amber Chesley of Benton received a Master of Arts degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado at the end of the semester.

Saint Michael’s College

COLCHESTER, Vt. — Evelyn G. Mercier of Waterville was named to the dean’s list at Saint Michael’s College.

Students who complete at least 12 credits of classes and achieve a grade point average of at least 3.5 in a particular semester are cited on the dean’s list for that semester.

Hamilton College

CLINTON, N.Y. — Two local students were named to the dean’s list at Hamilton College.

They are Maia Macek of Madison, a senior majoring in art, and a graduate of The American School in Japan; and Scott Turney of Kents Hill, a sophomore, and a graduate of Kents Hill School.

To be named to the list, a student must have carried a course load of four or more graded credits throughout the semester and earned an average GPA of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale.

Goodwin University

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. — Maeve Blanchette of Augusta made the president’s list at Goodwin University.

The president’s list includes all of whom scored a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Blanchette also made the dean’s list. Dean’s list inclusion requires a student to earn a minimum 3.5 GPA, the equivalent of an A- average, during a given academic session. The student must also be enrolled in a minimum of six academic credits to qualify.

Plymouth State University

PLYMOUTH, N.H. — Two local students have been named to the 2024 spring semester dean’s list at Plymouth State University.

The University of Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Susan Crawford of Gardiner has received a Master of Library & Information Studies degree from The University of Alabama during its spring commencement ceremonies.

Two local students enrolled during 2024 spring semester at The University of Alabama were named to the dean’s list with an academic record of 3.5 (or above) or the president’s list with an academic record of 4.0 (all A’s). SMITHFIELD, R.I. — Two local students who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to academic excellence and achievement and have been named to the 2024 spring deans’ list at Bryant University.

They are Aidan Knowlan of Winthrop, and Samuel Schmitt of Winslow.

To earn a place on the deans’ list, students must have a GPA of 3.4 or better for at least 12 semester hours of work.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute

WORCESTER, Mass. — Four local students at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) achieved the criteria required for the university’s 2024 spring dean’s list.

They are Elijah Fournier of Carrabassett Valley,  class of 2026, majoring in mechanical engineering; Lily Ker of Waterville, class of 2027, majoring in interactive media and game development; Eve Martineau of Greene, class of 2026, majoring in Bbiomedical engineering; and Cameron Walters of Kingfield, class of 2026, majoring in chemical engineering.

The criteria for the WPI dean’s list differs from that of most other universities as WPI does not compute a grade point average (GPA). Instead, WPI defines the dean’s list by the amount of work completed at the A level in courses and projects.

Wofford College

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Indiya Clarke of Vassalboro has been named to2024 spring dean’s list at Wofford College.

University of Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Jobin Terranova of Manchester has been named to the 2024 spring semester president’s list at the University of Iowa.

Terranova also was named to the dean’s list for the 2024 spring semester.

LEXINGTON, K.Y. — Sara Condon of Winthrop was named to the University of Kentucky College of Arts and Sciences dean’s list.

Students on the list earned 12 or more credit hours as letter grades with a minimum 3.6 GPA for the semester.

Eastern Connecticut State University

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. — Full-time student Olivia Bourque of Vassalboro, a junior who majors in  health sciences, has been named to the dean’s list at Eastern Connecticut State University.

To qualify, full-time students must complete a minimum of 12 credits in letter-graded courses with an average GPA of 3.5 or higher in the semester.

University of Maryland Global Campus

ADELPHI, Md. — Three local students have been named to the dean’s list at University of Maryland Global Campus. They are Seth Pratt of Cornville, Tyler Sheets of Fairfield and Hunter Strauch of Dresden.

To be eligible, a student must complete at least six credits during the term, earned a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the term, and maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 at UMGC.

Part-time students qualify with the accumulation of 12 or more credits for letter grades which are GPA applicable earning at least a 3.30 quality point average.

The requirement to make the list is a grade point average of 3.7 or higher for that semester.

Shenandoah University

WINCHESTER, Va. — Kalina Keller, of Knox, is one of 444 students named to the president’s list at Shenandoah University.

To qualify, students must be enrolled full-time in baccalaureate degree programs and attain a semester GPA of 3.90 or higher. All president’s list honorees are also recognized on the university’s dean’s list, which includes students who earn a semester GPA of 3.50 or higher.

Grove City College

GROVE CITY, Pa. — Isaak Flaming of Dresden, an exercise science major at Grove City College, has been named to the ean’s list with high distinction.

Flaming is a 2020 graduate of Morse High School and is the son of Glenn and Simone Flaming from Dresden.

HARRISONBURG, Va. — Monmouth resident Amber Currie has been named to the dean’s list at James Madison University.

CLINTON, N.Y.  — Charles Haberstock of Waterville was named the recipient of The Sidney and Eleanor Wertimer Prize Scholarship in Economics on May 7 at Hamilton College’s annual Class & Charter Day. Established in 1950, the event combines the traditional Class Day celebrating the end of classes with a commemoration of the granting of the college’s charter on May 26, 1812.

The Sidney and Eleanor Wertimer Prize Scholarships in Economics are awarded to up to five juniors who have excelled in the study of economics.

Haberstock, a junior majoring in economics and geosciences, is a graduate of Waterville High School.
