The Supreme Court’s ruling on bump stocks not falling under machine gun regulations because of literal interpretation of text rather than intent of law is shocking! What about level of significance?

A book to an animal is a colored shape. To an uneducated person a book is a series of marks on paper. At another level a book can be seen as a series of letters arranged by rules. On a still higher level the book is an expression of meaning. The facts given to the eye are identical. The mind determines the level of significance. When the level of the knower is not adequate to the level of the object of knowledge, the result is not factual error but something much more serious — an inadequate and impoverished view of reality. (Paraphrase of G.N.M. Tyrrell writings.)

As it has been said: They seeing, see not; and hearing, they hear not, neither do they understand.
