DAMARISCOTTA — The Inn Along the Way’s first Summer 2024 Community Conversation is set for 3 p.m. Sunday, June 30, in the Long Barn at the Chapman Farm, 741 Main St.

“Affordable Housing: Integrating Resilient Community Landscapes” will be the focus of the talk, as the topic relates to contemporary challenges facing Maine communities, according to a news release from Sherry Flint with the Inn Along the Way.

Maine’s surging real estate market during the pandemic and beyond has put home ownership and rental opportunities out of reach for many Maine families as well as displacing renters from what had been stable, affordable housing. According to Gov. Janet Mills, Maine has made strides in easing the state’s housing crisis over the past year, but construction is not keeping up with population growth and continues to be hampered by resistance to development in many communities.

Panelists addressing the issue of affordable housing at the state, county and local level will be Erik Jorgensen, Maine State Housing Authority, Nesterly Home Sharing Initiative; Emily Rabbe, executive director of the Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission; and Kevin Sutherland, Newcastle town manager.
