DETROIT — A Burnham man suffered life-threatening injuries Sunday when he was ejected from his car in a single-vehicle crash in Detroit, police said.

Trent Richardson, 64, was ejected from his 2005 Subaru Legacy at about 4:45 p.m. after he failed to negotiate a turn near 309 River Road.

Richardson crossed the center line while southbound, drove off the road and veered into a ditch, where his vehicle flipped over and rolled several times, according to information from the Somerset County Sherriff’s Office.

Richardson was taken by ambulance to Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield, and later transported by a LifeFlight of Maine ground crew to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for surgery to treat internal injuries, leg lacerations and a shattered collarbone, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Deputy Mike Mitchell of the Sheriff’s Office said Richardson was not wearing a seat belt, and speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
