PORTLAND and ELLSWORTH — More than $137,000 in Maine Community Foundation grants aim to help strengthen nonprofit organizations and projects in Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties.
MaineCF’s Southern Midcoast Grantmaking Committee awarded $130,120 to 15 regional organizations through the foundation’s Community Building Grant Program. MaineCF donors with advised funds made three additional grants totaling $7,500.
2024 grantees include:
Boothbay Region Community Resource Council, general support, to use technology to help older people remain in their homes.
Boothbay Sea and Science Center, general support, to actively engage children and adults in hands-on experiential programs that further ocean literacy, promote environmental stewardship and embrace general wellbeing.
Housing Resources for Youth, general support, to find homes for unsheltered teens and encourage high school completion.
Wiscasset Waterville & Farmington Railway Museum, general support, to reconstruct an accessible station platform to provide access for visitors of all ages and abilities.

Boothbay Region Historical Society, general support, to provide diverse learning opportunities on the Boothbay region’s history: $10,000.
Boothbay Region Community Resource Council, general support, to use technology to help older people remain in their homes: $7,000.
Boothbay Sea and Science Center, general support, to actively engage children and adults in hands-on experiential programs that further ocean literacy, promote environmental stewardship and embrace general wellbeing: $10,000.
Bruun Studios, Damariscotta, general support, to help individuals share their stories and connect with each other through art workshops and events: $2,490.
Central Lincoln County YMCA, Damariscotta, project support, to reach new, rural school communities through its food education program that teaches the value and joy of growing, preparing and eating nutritious, local foods: $10,000.
Community Housing Improvement Project, Newcastle, general support, to engage community volunteers in making neighbors’ homes safe, warm and dry by providing repairs for those who cannot otherwise afford them: $10,000.
Hearty Roots, Bristol, general support, to help kids get outside all year to become good stewards of the land and their physical and mental health: $10,000.
Lincoln Academy, Newcastle, project support, to repurpose learning spaces and establish the Midcoast Workshop at Lincoln Academy as a center for multi-generational learning with emphasis on marine resources: $10,000.
LincolnHealth, Damariscotta, project support, for a new school health center at Wiscasset Middle High School: $10,000.
Twin Villages Foodbank Farm, Nobleboro, general support, to provide 80,000 pounds of fresh food for neighbors who need it most: $10,000.

Midcoast Literacy, Bath, general support, to provide free literacy services to adults, children and families through one-on-one tutoring, English classes, early childhood literacy lessons and free books: $1,570.
Restorative Justice Project Maine, Brunswick, project support, to build understanding of restorative practices within Mt. Ararat High School and increase referrals to its juvenile harm-repair program: $9,060.
