Arnold J. Dore

SKOWHEGAN – Arnold J. Dore passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Glenridge Comfort Care in Waterville on Monday, July 15, 2024. Arnold was born in Skowhegan on June 1, 1934, to Frank Dore, Sr., and Katherine (Miller) Dore. On Aug. 2, 1958, Arnold married Joanne (Luce) Dore in Skowhegan and went on to have four children, Todd Dore, Randy Dore, Michelle Ward, and Lisa Warren.

Arnold graduated from Skowhegan Area High School in 1953 and joined the Marines in 1954, serving until 1957. Upon returning home, he worked for a short time at Sampson’s, Medwed, and then began work as a type setter at the Somerset Reporter. Upon leaving the Somerset Reporter, he worked for the Morning Sentinel in Waterville and retired from the KJ/Morning Sentinel in Augusta in 1999.

After retirement, Arnold loved spending time working in his garden, watching Westerns and the Red Sox, reading books by Gerry Boyle, and spending time with his family. He and Joanne looked forward to their yearly family reunions held at their home on Bigelow Hill. He also was a proud member of the Maine Leathernecks Marine Corps League – Det 1361 and he and Joanne enjoyed going to the monthly meetings and yearly Marine Corp Birthday Dinners. He was chosen as Marine of the Year in 2018.

He was predeceased by both his parents; in-laws Donald Luce Sr. and Edna (Haines) Luce; brothers Frank Dore Jr. and wife Pauline and David Dore and wife Joann; sisters Lois and husband Maurice Moody, Laura and husband Raymond Dostie, and Lorraine and husband Fred LeBlanc; brothers-in-law Ronald Luce and Gary Spencer; and daughter-in-law Donna Bess Dore.

Arnold is survived by his wife Joanne of 65 years; sons Todd (Deborah) Dore and Randy Dore and partner Karen Thompson; daughters Michelle (Corey) Ward and Lisa (Travis) Warren; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one on the way; brother Maurice and wife Susan and sister Rosalie Spencer.

The family would like to thank Maine General Hospital, Andrea in particular, for all their care and support.

Per Arnold’s wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held Aug. 10, 2024, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Mark Tanner officiating at their home on Bigelow Hill.
