Well Hallowell, get ready for an outrageous property tax increase of 20% and the largest tax increase Hallowell has ever seen.
The City Council met July 29 to go through a long list of proposed budget cuts, but to no avail. Only very minor cuts were approved, and so many serious budget cut opportunities were passed up. In fact, many special interest groups were given taxpayer money. You need to tell me why groups like Vision Hallowell, Arts & Culture Committee and the Gay Pride Alliance need our tax dollars when we are faced with a 20% increase over last year’s taxes.
For most of us that is a $900 to $1,200 increase. The only special interest group not represented at the budget meeting was the Hallowell taxpayer.
