Celia Leonie Holmes

LIVERMORE FALLS – Celia Leonie Holmes, a beacon of strength and tenderness, passed away on the 7th of September, 2024. Born in Skowhegan on March 13, 1945, she resided in Livermore Falls and made a significant impact on all those fortunate to cross her path. As Mark Twain once said, “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” Celia, throughout her life, demonstrated a remarkable understanding of her purpose, and lived it out with an inspiring blend of passion, determination, and grace.

Celia’s life was a testament to her resilience and her love for education. For many years, she served as an Administrative Assistant in the field of education, where she was not only an integral part of the administrative team, but also a source of unwavering support and mentorship for countless students and staff members. Balancing her professional life with the demands of motherhood, Celia was the epitome of dedication and perseverance. Her sons, Steven and Stacy Wilkins, were the pride of her life, and she left an indelible mark on their hearts with her wisdom, compassion, and unconditional love.

Celia had the heart of a lioness. She was a woman of dignity, courage, and tenacity, who, despite the challenges life threw at her, always stood tall. She was a pillar of strength, not only for her sons but for everyone who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Clara Nault; her brothers, Robert and James, and sister, Lorna, and her loving husband of 27 years, Wendell Holmes. As Albert Schweitzer once declared, “The only ones among you who will be really happy are those who will have sought and found how to serve.” Celia found her joy in service, and her spirit will continue to live on in the many lives she touched.

Family was a cornerstone of her life, and she loved to talk about her sons, Stacy and his wife, Angi and their children Kirk and his wife Ashley, and Samantha. Steve and Rebecca, and her son Zachary. Stepchildren Michele Coates and her husband Frank, their children Brandon and Bailey. Shawn Holmes and Lisa and Shawn’s children, Isaiah and Eli.

The graveside service to celebrate Celia’s life will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. EDT at Sunset Cemetery, 6 Pleasant St., Anson, Maine, 04958.

We invite those who knew and loved Celia to share their memories and photos on her memorial page at https://dsfuneral.com/obituaries/celia-holmes . In remembering her, we celebrate a life lived to its fullest and a legacy that will continue to inspire for generations to come.
