GARDINER — Healthy Communities of the Capital Area has announced StoryWalk locations in Kennebec County.
The following locations currently house StoryWalks: Readfield Community Library, China Primary School Nature Trail, Viles Arboretum, Farrington Elementary School, Gardiner Regional Middle School, and The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Gardiner.
StoryWalks build children’s interest in reading while promoting free, healthy outdoor activity for the whole family, according to a news release. While walking along a path, families read a story displayed on storyboards, one page at a time.
A free service provided by HCCA, permanent podiums and portable walks, as well as connections with local libraries and organizations to share different stories, are available. StoryWalks are hosted by SNAP-Ed Coordinator Rachael Reynolds and Healthy Eating and Active Living Coordinator Sarah Young.
Schools or organizations interested in installing Storywalks can email Reynolds at r.reynolds@hccame.org or Young at s.young@hccame.org.
