ROME — An 18-year-old woman who was involved Friday in a motorcycle-SUV crash in Rome died that afternoon from her injuries, according to officials.
Sophia Hayes of Benton was operating a motorcycle that collided with an SUV at 1:04 p.m. near 1008 Watson Pond Road, according to an announcement Monday from the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.
Hayes was taken by ambulance at 2:51 p.m. to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston after a LifeFlight of Maine helicopter was diverted from the scene.
She died from her injuries at 3:30 p.m., according to the announcement from the Sheriff’s Office.
Officials said Deputy Jeff Boudreau had applied two tourniquets while awaiting the arrival of other rescue workers.
The announcement included no information on the SUV driver’s condition.
No charges were pending Monday, and the Maine State Police were reconstructing the accident, officials said.
The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.
The Travis Mills Foundation is near the crash scene on Watson Pond Road and served as a place for the helicopter to land before it was diverted.
