MANCHESTER – Paul D. Stein, 53, died unexpectedly Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024, at his home. He was born in Buffalo, NY, on Feb. 25, 1971, a son of the late Douglas K. Stein and Bonita Smith.
Mr. Stein was a graduate of Clarence High School, NY, and earned his bachelor’s degree from Brockport University and master’s degree from Thomas college.
He had been employed by MaineGeneral Medical Center as its Chief Operating Officer and CEO of MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Long-Term Care for over 20 years.
Mr. Stein was on many boards, including HealthinfoNet (Chair), Nordx Labs, the Central Maine Growth Council, Kennebec Valley YMCA, and Maine Health & Higher Education Facilities Authority. Additionally, he served on the Maine Hospital Association’s Corporate Affiliate Subcommittee. He was also a corporator at Kennebec Savings Bank. He was a past-member of the Augusta Boys & Girls Club and Granite Hill Estates boards helping his community personally and professionally.
He was predeceased by a half-brother, Michael Meyers.
Mr. Stein is survived by his wife of 18 years (together for 22), Nicole A. (Poulin) Stein of Manchester; his children, Justin M. Stein and Isabella N. Stein both of Manchester; a sister, Susan Gervasio (spouse Paul Gervaiso) of Kernersville, NC; his step-mother, Kim (Oakley) Stein of Niagara Falls, NY; a half-brother, Shane Ambroski of Buffalo, NY, a half-sister, Kristen Wahl of Oakfield, NY; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Stein was a loving and devoted husband and father; he enjoyed fishing, boating and family time. He was the best of the best and was known for his positivity.
Relatives and friends may visit on Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where a memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
