JAY — Macomber Hill Road and Begin Road, off Macomber Hill Road, were reopened Tuesday, 16 months after being closed to through traffic because of flooding and washouts June 29, 2023.

The roads have been repaired and people can now travel on them, according to a post by Town Clerk Ronda Palmer on behalf of Town Manager Shiloh LaFreniere, who is on vacation. Before, only sections of the roads were open.

In May, the Select Board voted to accept a bid of $812,000 from Bedard Excavation of South Paris to rebuild a section of Macomber Hill Road that was heavily damaged by flooding.

The section over Macomber Stream has been closed since then.

In June, selectpersons voted to award a contract to J Pratt Construction of Minot for $365,763 for a stream crossing reconstruction project on Begin Road.

LaFreniere and other town staff have worked with representatives of the Federal Emergency Management Agency to determine what could and couldn’t be done.

The formula for funding is 75% from FEMA, 15% from the state and 10% from the town.
