UNITY — Sebasticook Regional Land Trust plans to host a family friendly walk and talk from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, Nov. 3, at the Connor Mill Trail.

Led by Maine Master Naturalist Val Watson, the group will consider where a stream ends and where the forest begins. Who lives in streams, and how do those critters interact with the rest of the world?

Participants can explore the ecology of Sandy Stream and meet some of the animals that live in its waters. It’s recommended that participants wear tall boots and dress for the weather, which will be cool but sunny, according to a news release from the land trust.

The group will meet at the kiosk at the Connor Mill Trail near the intersection of Main Street (Route 9) and Quaker Hill Road. This trail features access to Sandy Stream, colorful foliage in fall, an old Mill Site, and two loops totaling up to 3 miles through silver maple-bur oak floodplain and mixed woodland. The short east loop from the kiosk is open year-round, the longer loop past Bacon Brook is closed Nov. 1 through spring.

Watson, a Maine Master Naturalist based in Old Town, has a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Ecology and Environmental Sciences from the University of Maine, where she focused on river ecology. Her professional background is in field research and environmental education. She is currently a naturalist at Fields Pond Audubon Center in Holden.

The program is free but registration is required; RSVP visit sebasticookrlt.org or email info@sebasticookrlt.org.
