Arthur Gagne Sr.

CANAAN – Arthur Gagne Sr., 81, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024, unexpectedly. Arthur was born in Skowhegan on March 17, 1943, the son of Arthur and Emelda Gagne. He graduated from Skowhegan Area School and then served with the US National Guard. Arthur married Betty Gagne On May 31, 1969. They built their home in Canaan where they resided together until Betty’s passing in 2012.

Arthur was known for his love of old cars. He loved to be in his garage tinkering on and rebuilding them. Once they were perfect, he would sell or trade them and then he was on the hunt again for his next project. Arthur was known as the “old car guy from Canaan” If you were riding down the road with him, be prepared to make a pit stop to check out a vehicle for sale. In his younger years he was an avid pool player and played as often as he could.

He loved his family. If he was not talking about old cars, he was talking about his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with pride.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 44 years Betty Gagne; daughter Betty Jo Gagne; and a brother Louis Gagne.

Arthur is survived by his companion Ruth Hardy; sons Artie with wife Karyn and Shawn with wife Billi Jo, daughter Lisa with husband Jeff; grandchildren Alex Hesterly, Chris Gagne, Heather Rourke with husband Corey, Brandon Gagne with wife Makayla, Kayli Jo Bosworth with husband Brad, Jordyn Gund, Taylor Champman with husband Zach, McKayla Douin, and Michael Gagne with wife Jenica; great-grandchildren Miya, Maliyah, Aliana, Quinn, Paiton, Jace, Ellie, Elloise, Brantley, Kinsley, Weston, Raelynn, and baby Paxton on the way; siblings Phil Gagne, Marie Dean, and Paula Corson; along with several brothers and sisters in law.

The family would like to thank special friends Robert Corson and Mike Gilbert for all the time spent with Arthur.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 1 p.m. at the Church of Faith, 798 Cannan Rd. Skowhegan with burial at Walker Cemetery, on Tuttle Road in Cannan. A Celebration of life will follow at the Carrabassett Masonic Hall, 10 Oak Pond Rd. in Canaan.
