WHITEFIELD — Whitefield Library is set to host a talk by birder Howie Nielsen at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, at the library at 1 Arlington Lane.
The talk, “Travel is for the Birds,” highlights Nielsen’s recent and extensive travels to Australia, New Zealand, West Papua and the Philippines. As an avid birder and conservationist, he will also show photos of the many varieties of birds he and his wife, Karen, have seen throughout the world, according to a news release from Mary Kaminsky with the library.
Nielsen is a former Augusta dentist with a passion for travel and nature, especially birds of the world. After selling his practice in 2005, he and his wife worked in Southeast Asia on a variety of wildlife conservation projects. He has sought out birds in 65 different countries and worked as a dentist in six of them.
This event is free, but donations are appreciated.
