WINSLOW – It is with profound sadness we announce our beloved Mother, Marie Charette, left us on Nov. 4, 2024, at age 88. Marie was born in Kingscroft, Quebec, the 14th child of Rosilda and Richard Lebeau.
In 1956 she married her husband of 56 years Donald, relocated to Connecticut, and had five children. They moved to Maine in 1969, settling on 40 acres in Sidney, where she remained until 2015, relocating to Winslow.
Mom was fluent in French and English, retiring after 20 years as a secretary supporting The Maine Army National Guard at Camp Keyes. She was a communicant of St. Augustine for 45 years, then St. John. She was an extraordinary woman, an earth angel who lived a simple life. Mom loved God with all her heart and always put him first. She had that je ne sais quoi that lit up a room. Mom, also known as Sweet Marie and Miss Marie, absolutely loved people and was beloved by so many. She was the heart of our family, fiercely independent, loyal, strong, and faithful. She gave us everything she had. Our dad was truly blessed to have her love and support, and we are so blessed to call her our mother. She is our miracle. While our hearts are broken, we rejoice in knowing she has gone to her “real home” and delight in knowing she is with God, our dad Donald, her first born Lynn and all those she loved who preceded her.
She was predeceased by her parents, siblings, husband Donald, daughter Lynn, and “like a daughter” Rhonda Wakefield.
Marie is survived by her children, Donna and husband Fred, Nancy, Brenda and husband Ray, and Jeffrey; grandchildren, Melissa, Justin, Marissa and husband Devin; great-grandchildren, Raven, Isabella, Xavier, and Jordan; sisters-in-law, Margot and Carol; many nieces and nephews; also, very special friends, Rita, Donna, John, Sean, Brenda, and “My Charlie”.
We especially thank these wonderful people who have been such an important part of keeping mom healthy for many years and for your compassionate care. Mom loved each of you. Dr. Ramon Cheleuitte and staff, Dr. Andre Nadeau and staff, Dr. Julie Phelps and staff, Dr. Steven Gagnon and staff, Winslow Rescue, Darcy at Miracle Ear, MaineGeneral’s wonderful Hospice Staff, Marcia, Debbie, Emily, Kayla, Deb, Teresa, Debby, Peg, and others who truly took wonderful care of mom, helping to keep her at home with dignity and compassion, and Roy her friend/eucharistic minister.
Also, a heartfelt thank you to the staff at MaineGeneral Hospital for the exceptional care in her final hours. We are so grateful and thank you from our hearts.
A mass will be held at St. John, 26 Monument Street, Winslow on Saturday, Nov.16, 2024, at 9 a.m.
