READFIELD — Officials in Readfield-based Regional School Unit 38 have identified — but are not naming publicly — the person who made a threat last week that led to two district schools being closed for a day, according to Superintendent Jay Charette.
Maranacook Regional Middle School and Maranacook Community High School were closed Nov. 14 after a threat was found written in the girls’ bathroom at the middle school.
Though there was not a threat to the high school, the building was closed because of its proximity to the middle school.
The schools reopened the following day.
It was still unclear Thursday what was included in the threat.
The district’s investigation led to the identification of an individual, Charette wrote in a letter to the community that was posted Tuesday to the district’s website. The individual’s name was not released.
“The district is now pursuing all disciplinary procedures at our disposal to bring resolution to this situation,” Charette wrote.
Charette said school officials are continuing to investigate with the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, and have implemented additional security measures at the schools.
RSU 38 officials have asked parents to ask their children if they knew anything about the situation.
Lt. Chris Read of the Sheriff’s Office said he did not have an update for the public and the investigation was ongoing.
RSU 38 enrolls students from Manchester, Mount Vernon, Readfield and Wayne.
