ELLSWORTH – Elizabeth “Lizzy” Anne Stearns DeWitt, 87, previously of Dresden, died Nov. 3, 2024, at Seal Cove Assisted Living Facility in Ellsworth.
She was born in Chicago, Illinois, on Jan. 25, 1937, the daughter of Marcus and Mary (Newell) Stearns.
Lizzy served proudly in the United States Army from May 31, 1955, until her honorable discharge on April 24, 1958.
Lizzy and her husband, Glenn, were married nearly 40 years, 36 of which were spent residing in Dresden. She and Glenn enjoyed driving their camper and frequenting the Maine fairgrounds on an annual basis. A kind hearted woman with a huge heart, Lizzy would help anyone in need. She loved animals, and at times she owned donkeys, chickens, and other barnyard animals.
Lizzy is survived by her husband, Glenn, of Ellsworth and brother and sister in law, James and Valerie DeWitt, of Riverside, Washington, along with a close friend and neighbor, Diane Williams.
In accordance with Elizabeth’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. An interment with military honors was held at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
