NORRIDGEWOCK — A Madison man and his female passenger died Monday morning after their car crashed on U.S. Route 201A in Norridgewock, according to officials.

Kyle Wyman, 31, and his passenger, whom police did not identify, died near the intersection with Father Rasle Road, according to Chief Deputy Michael Mitchell of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash at about 7:15 a.m., after it was reported by a caller, Mitchell said.

A preliminary investigation found that Wyman was southbound in a 2008 Chevrolet Impala when he lost control, veered into the oncoming lane and then swerved back and went off the road, Mitchell said.

The car hit a utility pole and trees, before stopping in a wooded area about 40 feet off the road, Mitchell said.

Neither Wyman nor the woman was wearing a seat belt, and the car’s airbags deployed, according to Mitchell.

The cause of the crash was under investigation Monday. Deputy Jack LePage is the primary investigator, Detective Michael Lyman is reconstructing the crash and Sgt. Joseph Jackson is forensically mapping it, according to Mitchell.

Investigators were trying to confirm exactly when the crash occurred.

“A resident nearby heard a really loud noise that shook his house, he describes,” Mitchell said. “He went outside. Didn’t see anything. Went back inside. And he heard that noise around midnight.”

Along with the Sheriff’s Office, Redington-Fairview General Hospital EMS and the Norridgewock Fire Department responded to the crash, according to Mitchell.
