CANAAN – Jeffrey D. Sanders, 71, a lifelong resident of Easy Street, Canaan, passed away peacefully at the home of his brother, Michael in Winslow, on Dec. 19, 2024, following a lengthy illness due to kidney failure.
Jeff was born in Dexter, in 1953. He was the third son of Howard and Barbara (Seavey) Sanders. He attended Canaan and Skowhegan Schools and graduated from Skowhegan High School in 1971.
Jeff worked 43 years for Blue Rock and Pike Industries at several of their paving plants in Maine. He was well regarded as a dedicated hard worker, and he continued working full time for many years after suffering from kidney failure and having to be on dialysis for three sessions a week.
Jeff had a quick wit and smile. He enjoyed the challenge of working on and repairing both mechanical and electronic equipment and learning new skills. As a young man he spent much of his free time motorcycling and snowmobiling. He traveled throughout Maine. In later years he enjoyed following sports and the challenge of crossword and sudoku puzzles.
He was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Barbara.
Jeff is survived by his brothers Mark of South Carolina and Mike of Winslow; nephew, Eric Sanders of Portland; niece, Lynn Sanders with her husband Jim Morey of Boston; and close family friend Brenda Lambert of Benton.
At Jeff’s request there will be no visitation or public service. There will be a private scattering of his ashes in Canaan at a later date.
Jeff very much appreciated the support and care provided by the dialysis doctors, nurses and technicians at Thayer hospital and more recently at DCI in Skowhegan. His family wishes to thank the dedicated caring members of Maine General’s Hospice team who helped care for Jeff in his final days.
