Elizabeth “Betty” J. Hayden Page

LAKELAND, Fla. – Elizabeth J. Hayden Page, “Betty”, was born on Feb. 22, 1947, and departed this world on Feb. 22, 2025, on her 78th birthday, due to complications after surgery at Lakeland Regional Hospital, Florida.

Betty had relocated permanently to Florida, but was brought up in Madison. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Ruth (McLellan) Hayden. She attended the Madison schools and graduated from Madison High School in the class of 1965, where she was recognized for perfect attendance. She was not necessarily the academic scholar but considered school a social event. After graduation, she started her work career at Norwalk Shoe and Medwed Shoe in Skowhegan, and she worked many summers at the Smithfield Summer Camps in Maine, and in the winters at McDonald’s in Florida. She was an avid fan of NASCAR and seldom missed an opportunity to attend BEANO games. We often heard of her “wins” but rarely about the “losses”.

On May 7, 1966, she married Ronald J. Page. That marriage ended in 1973, but she is survived by their three children: a son, Troy Page and his fiancée Juanita Green of Florida, and two daughters: Stefanie Mercier and Dulcie Horkavy of Benton. She is the grandmother of seven; Jessica, Allen, Mary-Alice, Jasmine, Christopher, Abigail and Daniel and a great-grandmother of three; Aubree, Elizabeth and Melody. She is also survived by three sisters, Louise LeHay of Farmington, Nettie (Robert) Nelson of Clinton and Deborah Bruce of Madison. She has many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, sister Patricia Mullin; brother Walter Hayden; her ex-husband Ronald J. Page; and three brothers-in-law, Alex LeHay, Robert Bruce and George Mullin.

A celebration of life and burial will be held later in the spring for friends and family at a date and place to be announced.
