The movie “No Other Land” recently won the Oscar for Best Documentary and I saw it in Waterville . It’s a gripping and important film about the residents of a Palestinian village in the occupied West Bank that shows the events of the past few years. The film has provoked some controversy, as it is shot from the point of view of the village residents. But any picture or moving image, by definition, has a point of view. I dare anyone to see this movie and not get engaged and interested in the dramatic struggles of these ordinary people.
Central Mainers are lucky to have the Maine Film Center in downtown Waterville, a place to see interesting and thought-provoking movies in a comfortable setting (with a good concession stand, too!). I urge anyone interested in learning more about this long-running conflict to go see “No Other Land” while you can.
