AUGUSTA – Heaven welcomed its newest youth softball coach on Saturday, August 10, 2024. Noel Frederic LeVasseur, 57, passed away at Massachusetts General Hospital, surrounded by his family while listening to his O.A.R tunes.

Noel was born May 12, 1967 in Taunton, Mass., son of Gloria M. Allen.

He graduated from Cony High School in 1985, where he was well known for his involvement in football, basketball, and baseball. He will fondly be remembered as Class Flirt, as that trait of his never wore off. He then attended the University of Maine, Orono where he was a proud member of the Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

For the next 30+ years he coached girls youth softball in the greater Augusta area where his teams won numerous state and regional championships as well as traveling to Auburn, AL where his team participated in the 10U National ASA Championship. He will always be remembered as the coach who dove through puddles in the outfield during rainy practices, gave nicknames to every player on his teams, belly-flopped at every team pool party, inspected all Jell-o coolers at away tournaments, loved his post-practice coach’s meetings, gave the numbers ‘4-3-2-1’ a whole new meaning, and as the coach who showed hundreds of young players how to love the game and our teammates- regardless of outcome.

Noel had a variety of careers throughout his lifetime, but his most rewarding jobs came with the titles “Dad” and “Grandpa”. Noel was extremely proud of his daughters, Morgan Noel and Madison Ann and was smitten with his two beautiful granddaughters, Emmy and Myra.

After his ALS diagnosis, Noel became an “ALS Warrior” traveling all over the US promoting ALS awareness and research. His slogan for his battle was “I may have ALS, but it sure as h*ll doesn’t have me!”

Despite his diagnosis, Noel continued to enjoy life to the fullest extent spending time with friends, grabbing a beer (or three) at the Black & Tan, going to concerts, working on his tan at the beach any chance he got, cheering on his favorite teams- the Buccaneers and Bruins, and of course spending time with his family. You could find Noel wearing a pair of shorts no matter what time of the year it was – one could say it was his “signature” look.

Noel is survived by his mother, Gloria M. Allen of Augusta; daughter Morgan Noel LeVasseur-Haskell, her husband Tyler Haskell and their daughters Emalyn-Ann and Myra of Lisbon Falls; daughter Madison Ann LeVasseur of Whitefield; his former wife Ann-Marie Manning of Whitefield; two aunts and one uncle; one great aunt; and numerous cousins.

A celebration of his amazing life will be held at a later date.

May it never rain on your softball field.
