A Farmingdale man died early Saturday afternoon after a motorcycle he was riding crashed on Route 27 in Pittston.

The man, Christopher Graham, was riding in Pittston at noontime Saturday as part of a procession to honor Antonio Balcer, a Winthrop man who was killed three weeks ago and whose 17-year-old son has been charged with the murder, according to a report shared by Kennebec County Sheriff Ryan Reardon.

Both Graham, whose age police did not immediately share, and Balcer belonged to the Exiles Motorcycle Club, which has a clubhouse in Pittston, Sergeant Galen Estes wrote in an initial report about the Saturday crash.

Graham was riding his motorcycle in a procession that left Gardiner and was due to end at the Pittston clubhouse, Estes wrote. About 50 members of the club participated in the procession, Estes added.

But just before noon, Estes continued, after the procession entered Pittston and was heading north on Route 27, Graham fell to the back and was attempting to catch up when the procession came to an abrupt stop.

“Graham laid down his 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle and ultimately struck the rear of a Chevrolet pickup that was also participating in the procession,” Estes wrote. “Graham suffered grave injuries and was pronounced dead while en route to (Maine General Medical Center in Augusta).”

The procession was in honor of Antonio Balcer, who was killed along with his wife, Alice Balcer, according to Estes. On Oct. 31, police charged their 17-year-old son, Andrew Balcer, with the murders. On Saturday afternoon, there were going to be visitations for the Balcers at Plummer Funeral Home in Augusta.

Members of the Kennebec County and Sagadahoc County sheriff’s offices, Maine State Police, Gardiner and Richmond police departments and Pittston Fire Department assisted at the crash scene, Estes wrote.

Gardiner police were accompanying the procession earlier in the day, Estes added.
