SKOWHEGAN — A Moscow man already facing charges stemming from a 2022 home invasion in Bingham is now facing additional charges.

Tyler Couture, 32, was indicted by a Somerset County grand jury Oct. 10 on one count of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and three counts of tampering with a witness or informant, according to court records released Friday by the Somerset County District Attorney’s Office. All are Class C counts.

The new indictment adds to one Class A count of burglary and one Class B count of aggravated assault, for which Couture was indicted in July 2023, according to court records on file in Skowhegan.

Couture was arrested in February 2023 following a monthslong Somerset County Sheriff’s Office investigation into an alleged break-in and assault at a residence on Main Street in Bingham the night of May, 29 2022. Two other Bingham residents — Christopher Corwin and Margaret Corwin — were also charged in connection with the incident.

During the armed break-in, Couture assaulted one of the residents with a firearm, according to the indictment and an 18-page probable cause affidavit filed by Deputy Michael Lyman of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office. The man who was assaulted had multiple teeth knocked out and suffered other minor injuries.

During a physical struggle, a shot was fired but nobody was hit, according to investigators.

According to the new indictment handed down last month, Couture is alleged to have made, or attempted to make, a witness or informant in the case “withhold testimony information or evidence” on Feb. 12, 15 and 16, 2023, in Madison.

The person named in the indictment is identified as Couture’s mother in a probable cause affidavit for a separate arrest of Couture in Moscow on Aug. 17, written by Deputy Jack LePage of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office. Couture was arrested then on misdemeanor-level charges of domestic violence assault, domestic violence criminal threatening, domestic violence terrorizing and violation of condition of release.

The Morning Sentinel does not identify alleged victims of domestic violence without their consent.

No defense attorney information for Couture was available Tuesday. The lawyer Couture had retained, Roger F. Brunelle Jr. of a Portland law firm, withdrew as counsel in October, citing in a court filing Couture’s failure to fulfill “financial obligations” and a breakdown in communication as reasons. Court records do not indicate if Couture has since retained another lawyer or if one has been appointed for him.

For the burglary and aggravated assault charges, Couture was released from jail on a surety bond, granting a $175,000 lien on his property on Mayfield Road in Moscow, court records show. After his arrest this August, Couture posted $1,000 cash bail.

An indictment is not a determination of guilt but indicates enough evidence exists for a case to move forward to trial.
